There is a significant amount of conflicting
information in the various records, particularly related to the ages and births of their
children. The birth of one child and the deaths of two others are in the Fall River MA VR. The
Cemetery records give the birthplace of his son John as Scranton PA, and in the 1900 federal census the birthplace of James and John was given as Penn.

Ryan), wife of James Cummings died early this morning at her home, No. 810 Pine Street, following a lingering
illness. She had been a resident of this city for more than 30 years, and always lived in the Sacred Heart Parish.
She was well-known throughout the city and had a large circle of friends. Besides her husband, she is
survived by her sons, Jeremiah, James H. and John W. Cummings, her daughters, Mary and Joanna Cummings
and Mrs. William Duffy, and a sister Mrs...

NOTES: He is listed with his family in the 1880 and 1900 federal census for Fall River. He was listed as age 13
b Ireland in 1880, and in 1900 as b May 1873 b Ireland. He apparently immigrated with his mother and
siblings in 1875. In 1900 he was working as a carder in a mill.
